Mathilde Wauters studied at the Municipal Conservatoire of Bruges with Eline Groslot and at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in the class of Sophie Hallynck. She obtained her Master of Music with highest distinction in 2017.
Mathilde further refined her skills at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Isabelle Moretti, where she obtained her Master of Music with distinction from the jury. She completed her training at the Orchestra Academy of the Münchner Philharmoniker under the guidance of principal harpist Teresa Zimmermann.
Since 2022, Mathilde has been principal harpist of the Residentie Orkest in The Hague. As a soloist, she was a laureate of several national and international competitions, including the International Félix Godefroid Competition and the Belgian competitions Harpegio and Belfius Classics. She also received a medal from the Union of Belgian Composers. In 2013, she won First Prize with unanimity of the jury at the Concours International Martine Géliot in Paris/Fontainebleau. At the 11th USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, she was awarded the Bronze Medal in 2019, as well as the special prize for the best performance of Concierto de Aranjuez in the final.
Mathilde is a laureate of the non-profit organisation SWUK. With their support, her solo album Whispers of Tales was released in April 2022. She frequently performs with the contemporary music ensemble HERMES and with I Justiniani, and has been invited to perform with La Monnaie, the Münchner Philharmoniker, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. She is a regular guest at the Arte Amanti chamber music festival and has given recitals for Camac Harps, Middagconcerten Antwerpen, Harppunt, and Kathedraalconcerten Brugge. She was also featured on the Klara programme De Twintigers.
In chamber music, Mathilde is a member of Trio Gilu. She also performs regularly with her sister Emma as a harp duo. Together they explore duet repertoire ranging from John Thomas to Karlheinz Stockhausen, presenting these programmes at venues such as Bozar in Brussels, Concertgebouw Bruges, and during Musica Sacra in Maastricht.
Mathilde is Assistant at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.
