He studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His teachers were Wim Vos, Luuk Nagtegaal and Aly NDiaye Rose. He was a prizewinner at the Tromp competition and the Gaudeamus competition.
Niels is a member of ensemble Nieuw Amsterdams Peil, and The Hague Percussion (Slagwerk Den Haag). He also played as a substitute include in the concert band, orchestra residence, ASKO ensemble, ensemble modern, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the new ensemble.
