To mark its 200th anniversary, the Royal Conservatoire The Hague presents a special side-by-side project with the renowned Cuarteto Casals, one of the Ensembles in Residence at the conservatoire. In this unique collaboration, students perform alongside the quartet members in a conductor-less string orchestra, where communication, listening and shared artistic responsibility take centre stage.
The programme opens with five madrigals by Maddalena Casulana, one of the earliest published female composers in music history, followed by Edvard Grieg's elegant Holberg Suite, Op. 40, and Benjamin Britten's energetic Simple Symphony. Together with Abel Tomàs, Vera Martínez, Cristina Cordero and Arnau Tomàs, students explore chamber music on a larger scale.
