Niels Tausk studied trumpet with Ack van Rooijen, double bass with Jaques Schols at the royal conservatory in Den Haag, and did his masters, with a thesis on jazz composition. In the eighties he took lessons in New York with trumpeters John Eckert and Joe Magnarelli but also piano and composition lessons with players like Mike Ledonne and Hal Galper.
He teaches theory subjects, composition, leads ensembles and especially has a lot of experience teaching the young talent department, which he also does at the junior jazz college in Amsterdam.
As an in demand working musician he has toured and recorded with Ferdinand Povel, Peter Beets, Georgie Fame, Teddy Edwards, Dick Hyman and has done arranging work for big bands, strings (the Matangi quartet) and led his own quintet featuring Rob van Bavel and Paul Heller.
