Silvia Borzelli (1978) writes for instruments and voices, with or without electronics. Her work is driven by a strong interest in idiomatic writing, economy of material, and mechanisms of multiplication: repeating-never-repeating gestures and materials unfolding within forms that test and play with time, moving between persistence, erosion and transformation.
While her work always begins and ends in sound, she understands music as a form of listening and presence, often engaging with human narratives, concepts and images that feel urgent, fertile, necessary. In this sense, her music carries a political dimension in its most etymological meaning: rooted in a shared territory — physical or metaphorical — and in the act of inhabiting and interpreting it through sound.
Her music has been performed by ensembles and musicians including ASKO|Schönberg (Het Muziek), Cappella Amsterdam, Ensemble Klang, Les Cris de Paris, 2e2m, Arditti Quartet, Quartetto Maurice, Ensemble L’Arsenale, mdi ensemble, Sentieri selvaggi, Ensemble Linea, L’instant donné, Ensemble Avanti!, Dario Calderone, Francesco Dillon, Gareth Davis, Jean-Philippe Wurtz, and others, and presented at festivals and venues including the Venice Music Biennale, RomaEuropa Festival, Milano Musica, Lugano Musica, Festival Musica Strasbourg, Musiques Démesurées, CNDM at Museo Reina Sofía, Musica Nova, ECLAT, Wien Modern, Suntory Hall, November Music and Holland Festival, among others.
Her music has been commissioned and supported by institutions including the French Ministry of Culture, Radio France, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart and the Fonds Podiumkunsten Nederland.
