Teunis van der Zwart became famous as a performer on the historical natural horn and is a specialist in historically informed performance practice.As a soloist he has made CD recordings with the Freiburger Barock Orchester, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Orchestra Libera Classica, Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov, among others, and performed with conductors such as Frans Brüggen, Phillipe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Jos van Veldhoven, Ivor Bolton, Ivan Fischer and Masato Suzuki. Van der Zwart has given masterclasses all over the world and was a principal subject teacher at the conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague. At the latter conservatory he has led the renowned early music department since 2020.Although he is no longer working as a performing musician, he is currently active as a jury member, coach and speaker.In 2023 he received his PhD for his research into the sound and playing techniques of the eighteenth-century horn virtuoso Giovanni Punto.
