Tsjaikovski & Lutosławski – Residentie Orkest
In this concert, Master’s students from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague will perform alongside the Residentie Orkest.
Boris Giltburg's return to The Hague is always something to look forward to. A long-standing favourite of the Residentie Orkest and its first Artist in Residence, he is admired for his clarity, depth and finely judged intensity. In Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, he demonstrates why he is regarded as one of today's leading pianists.
The concert opens with Sibelius's Finlandia, followed by Lutosławski's Concerto for Orchestra, a masterpiece of contrasts, rhythmic precision and brilliant orchestration. Sibelius's The Swan of Tuonela then offers a moment of quiet reflection before the programme concludes with Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. Under the direction of conductor Emilia Hoving, mysticism, virtuosity and symphonic power come together in a compelling programme.
