Rob van de Laar

Guest teacher horn (Classical Department)

Since 2016, Rob van de Laar (1987) has been principal Horn of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg since 2016. In 2017, Rob received the Dutch Music Award, which is the highest honour that can be given to a classical musician by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands.

As a soloist, he has performed concertos by Joseph Haydn, W.A. Mozart and Richard Strauss with several European Orchestras. In 2019, he made his debut at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2020, he performed as a soloist at the Salzburg Festival with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg conducted by Andrew Manze.

Rob has played as guest principal horn with many prominent orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bavarian State Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Seoul Philharmonic and Camerata Salzburg under esteemed conductors such as Bernhard Haitink, Mariss Jansons and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

Rob van de Laar studied with Herman Jeurissen at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and continued his studies with Wolfgang Vladar at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since 2020 he is guest teacher at the Royal Conservatoire.

His great passion for chamber music led him to many national and international festivals. His debut Album ‘Heartfelt - Romantic Works for Horn’ is released under Challenge Records.
