In September 2025, the The Hague Young Jazz Orchestra will kick off: a vibrant big band for young musicians aged 12 and up. Every Saturday morning, the orchestra rehearses at Amare, in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire.
Are you a passionate musician? Sign up for the audition and get the chance to join this swinging ensemble. You'll play together, gain stage experience and discover the world of jazz from the inside out.
This big band is a collaboration between the Royal Conservatoire, Pro Jazz, and several regional music schools in and around The Hague.

Frequently Asked Questions
The big band follows a classic jazz line-up. We are looking for rhythm section players (drums, double bass or bass guitar, piano, guitar, vibraphone), saxophonists and brass players (trumpet, trombone). Do you play a different instrument? You're welcome to apply!
You don’t need to be an experienced jazz player, but you should be able to read music and have some experience with your instrument.
Absolutely! We focus on your motivation and musical level. If you play an instrument that’s not typically part of a big band, we still encourage you to audition.
Yes. While the band is aimed at secondary school students, you’re welcome to apply if you're nearly 12 or slightly older than 18. Please mention your age when applying.
Not at all. We’re looking for a diverse group of participants – including those with little or no jazz experience.
Definitely. If you’re curious about jazz or would love to experience playing in a big band, we’d love to hear from you.
Participation is free of charge. We do expect commitment and regular attendance at rehearsals and performances.
No individual lessons are provided during the rehearsals. We assume you are already receiving lessons and have a solid basic level.
That says nothing about your talent or your musical future. This is just one of many ways to grow as a musician – and as a person.
