Audition information

Overview
The audition is an informal meeting designed to assess your level, motivation, and overall musicianship. Our goal is to create a relaxed and welcoming environment for all applicants.

Duration
The meeting will last approximately 10-15 minutes. During this time, we will play some music and ask you and your parents questions about your experience, expectations, and availability. There will be a piano/keyboard, amplifiers, and a drum kit available. Bass and guitar players must bring their own instruments and cables. Drummers can bring their cymbals if they wish.

Music Selection
Please choose your favorite pieces from the provided sheet music. Youcan select one or all of the songs. Listening to the songs beforehand for reference and inspiration is encouraged.

Additional Material
Feel free to bring any additional material you would like to showcase during the audition.

Instrument-Specific Abilities
We will assess the following abilities for each instrument:

  • Piano: Good rhythm and feel, ability to read chord symbols, and basic sight-reading.
  • Bass: Good rhythm and feel, ability to read bass clef, and ability to create simple bass lines.
  • Guitar: Good rhythm and feel, ability to read chord symbols, ability to accompany in different styles, and basic sight-reading.
  • Drums/Percussion: Good rhythm and feel, ability to play in different styles (funk, jazz, Latin, rock), and good reading skills.

Assessment Process
Mistakes are a natural part of the process! If you are unable to play some of the music or exercises provided, it is completely fine; it is part of the assessment process.
