Speechless - tribute to Martijn Padding
After inspiring generations of young composers with unwavering passion for nearly 30 years, Martijn Padding is stepping down as a teacher in the Composition Department at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
We are Speechless. It marks the end of an era. Thanks to his dedication, the department has become home to a close-knit teaching team and has grown into an important centre for contemporary music in the Netherlands and beyond.
He has shown that profound experimentation and solid craftsmanship can stand side by side with playfulness and humour. Above all, he has shown that composing is, first and foremost, about people, and that musicians are your very best friends.
On 24 September 2026, we present a musical tribute to Martijn, with many surprises on the programme.
