This evening explores new tuning systems and microtonality. Composition students present new works written for Ensemble Scordatura under the guidance of Peter Adriaansz and Aart Strootman.
The musicians perform on replicas of the microtonal instruments developed by the American composer Harry Partch, alongside instruments built by Strootman. Ensemble Scordatura specialises in contemporary music featuring alternative tuning systems and performs both leading microtonal repertoire and newly composed works.
The result is an evening of surprising sound worlds and innovative musical ideas.
