Young KC violist wins Gaudeamus prize

28 March 2025

Young KC violist Dylan Genev wins the Gaudeamus Prize at the Prinses Christina Concours West 1. Dylan received the award for his performance of Les Tecchler by BartolomeyBittmann, together with cellist Marianne Fusenig.

The Gaudeamus Prize is awarded for the best performance of a contemporary composition. Alongside the traditional repertoire, such as Wieniawski, Dylan showed how a Young KC violist can also excel outside the classical style. His expressive playing, combining classical virtuosity with the rocky style of BartolomeyBittmann – including challenging techniques like ‘chops’ – was very well received by the audience.

What made this achievement even more special: there is no sheet music available for Les Tecchler. Dylan and cellist Marianne studied the piece entirely by ear, based on a recording. Additionally, it was a wonderful collaboration between a Young KC student and the higher education department (HBO). Marianne, a third-year bachelor student, enthusiastically took on the role of ‘coach cellist’ to rehearse and perform the piece together with Dylan.

The Royal Conservatoire congratulates Dylan and Marianne on this outstanding achievement!
