Side by Side 2022: Beethoven
Side by Side, the annual joint project of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and the students from the Royal Conservatoire’s Early Music department, once again promises to be a spectacular musical event. Under the baton of the English conductor Jonathan Cohen, the programme this year is devoted exclusively to music by Beethoven. A selection from Dances for Orchestra (compiled by the late Frans Brüggen), the imposing Eighth Symphony and the Concerto for violin, cello, piano and orchestra, with solo parts for three of the Royal Conservatoire’s most outstanding students.
An impressive programme featuring an equally august ensemble from the celebrated members of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century shoulder to shoulder with the very best of the new generation of musicians.
Jonathan Cohen is a conductor with a diverse repertoire whose versatile skills are much in demand. He is Artistic Director of the Tetbury Festival and of the early music ensemble Arcangelo and Musical Director of Les Violons du Roy, as well as permanent conductor of Les Arts Florisants and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. This season he will also be appearing with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
