The Dutch National Opera Academy (DNOA) is a two-year university Master’s programme for highly talented young opera singers, offered by the Royal Conservatoire The Hague in partnership with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Designed for singers at an advanced stage of their development, the Academy offers a performance-intensive training environment that reflects the realities of the opera profession. At the DNOA, the stage is the classroom: students work regularly with professional ensembles such as the Residentie Orkest and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, while artistic practice, reflection and professional experience are at the heart of the programme. Through fully staged productions, rehearsal processes and individual training, students develop their vocal, dramatic and artistic skills as an integrated practice, alongside the practical skills needed to transition to the international opera profession.
The DNOA seeks to develop singers who are artistically autonomous, collaborative and professionally aware, equal to the challenge of building sustainable and fulfilling careers in the ever-changing world of opera.
Recent DNOA graduates can be found in the opera studios and on the stages of opera houses across Europe, including the Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Opernhaus Zürich, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Komische Oper Berlin, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Dutch National Opera and Nederlandse Reisopera.
