Lecture by Gary McPherson on motivation and selfregulation of musicians


Wednesday May 18th, Gary McPherson, expert in muziekeducation eminently, is giving a presentation on motivation and selfregulation of musicians.

Music learning can give us a lot of pleasure. At the same time it can be demanding, difficult and ask for discipline. Knowing how to monitor yourself is essential in the learning process and the development of the musician, either as beginner or professional. McPherson did a lot of research on motivation and selfregulation of musicians in particular.

McPherson is an inspiring speaker and he well known in the field of music education. He is the Ormond Chair of Music at the Melbourne Conservatoire of Music (MCM) and served untill 2019 as director of the MCM at the University of Melbourne. He published more that 200 articles and chapters and edited some of the most prominent books like The Oxford Handbook of Music Education (2012, 2018), The Child as Musician: A Handbook of Musical Development (2006, 2016) en The Oxford Handbook of Music Performance (2022).
