Royal Conservatoire Big Band - PJPJ Voorschoten

On 1 April 2023, the Royal Conservatoire Big Band will come to Voorschoten for the 10th time in a row. It remains a unique concert, partly because the Big Band rarely performs outside The Hague. A happening for every music lover!

The Big Band consists of 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets and a rhythm section consisting of drums, guitar, bass and piano. Over the years, the Big Band's repertoire has grown considerably. Part of it consists of arrangements written by teachers and (former) students of the Jazz department. These arrangements show a great variety of musical styles and opinions.

The Royal Conservatoire Big Band has a long history. In the mid-1970s, students and teachers at the Conservatoire formed their own big band. In the late 1970s, jazz pianist and arranger Frans Elsen became the first permanent conductor. The Jazz department of the Royal Conservatoire, which was founded in mid-1979, grew out of this big band. The Royal Conservatoire Big Band has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival more than 20 times.
