A warm welcome to Royal Conservatoire's new Jazz Saxophone teacher: Tineke Postma

Exciting news! Starting in September 2024, internationally acclaimed saxophonist Tineke Postma will join the Royal Conservatoire’s Jazz Department as a saxophone teacher. With an illustrious career spanning over two decades, Tineke brings a wealth of experience in performance, composition, and teaching to the conservatoire, making her a remarkable addition to our faculty.
Get to know Tineke Postma
Tineke Postma is one of the leading saxophonists of her generation, known for her lyrical, melodic, and adventurous style. She has released eight critically acclaimed albums as a bandleader and collaborated on Grammy-winning projects with Terri Lyne Carrington and Dianne Reeves. Tineke has performed internationally, working with renowned artists like Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock, and has received numerous prestigious awards, including European Musician of the Year (2020, Académie du Jazz) and the Buma Boy Edgar Award (2015).
Her career highlights include performing at the Assembly Hall of the United Nations for International Jazz Day and being personally invited by Esperanza Spalding to perform in a tribute to Wayne Shorter in 2023, following Shorter’s own recommendation.
Beyond her performance career, Tineke is an accomplished composer with works commissioned by prominent institutions such as Bimhuis and the Metropole Orchestra. Her music is inspired by jazz legends like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Cannonball Adderley.
