Les Arcanes Baroques wins the audience prize from the Biagio Marini competition

13 August 2025

The ensemble Les Arcanes Baroques has won the audience prize at the Biagio Marini Competition. With their programme “Building Bridges”, they presented a musical journey through three centuries of the Baroque, from the early 17th to the mid-18th century, and were the only ensemble to perform both an early Baroque work and a piece by Biagio Marini himself.

The Biagio Marini Competition is held annually and challenges young musicians to present their artistic vision of early music. The ensemble devised a programme that built bridges both across time and between cultures:

  1. B. Marini (1594–1663) – Sopra la Monica, Op. 8 No. 45
  2. A. Caldara (1670–1736) – Trio Sonata in E minor, Op. 1 No. 5 (Grave & Vivace)
  3. F. X. Richter (1709–1789) – Trio Sonata in D major, Op. 3 No. 3 (Larghetto & Fugato)

The international quartet – consisting of Kira Dove (Ireland/Spain), Benjamin Lenzmeier (USA), Andreu Gènova Roldán (Spain) and Elias Tulchynsky (Germany) – embodies their motto “Building Bridges” not only musically, but also personally through their diverse backgrounds.

The jury spoke with great admiration. Han Tol remarked: “I am living in The Hague and I am proud that you represented the city so well!”

And Bernhard Forck (violinist of Akamus Berlin) praised their ensemble playing: “You have a great, beautiful and intense sound together!”

Congratulations Kira, Benjamin, Andreu, and Elias!
