In a diverse, artistic environment in which boundaries between genres and disciplines are increasingly blurring, Vocal Studies students of the Royal Conservatoire learn to create new and individual ways to express themselves as artists.

From the 2025/2026 academic year, the Royal Conservatoire will offer the Master Specialisation Lied. This two-year programme is a unique collaboration between the Royal Conservatoire and the International Lied Festival Zeist, and is the place where the upcoming generation of singers and pianists will be trained in (new forms of) the performance of song repertoire.

What Does the Master Specialisation Lied Entail?

The Master Specialisation Lied is part of the regular Master Piano or Classical Music Vocal Studies, and is intended for duos who want to combine their main subject with intensive training as a Lied duo. You will receive weekly duo coaching and monthly theme sessions, led by a variety of (guest) teachers.

International Masterclasses at the International Lied Festival Zeist

An important part of the programme is participation in the masterclass week of the International Lied Festival Zeist (ILFZ), where you will be taught by international greats such as Roderick Williams, Robert Holl, Wolfram Rieger and Bernarda Fink. This masterclass - part of ILFZ's Young Artist Platform - is a first leap towards a larger audience for many starting duos.
