After her training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy Joan van der Mast danced at various companies at home and abroad. She specialised in the Laban technique, Laban Movement Analysis and Choreologie. Now she is a dance teacher, choreographer, dance coach, Laban Movement Analyst and Policy Advisor. Joan is the founder of Ex Nunc: Ex Nunc and has since also the artistic director of the foundation. She teaches intermediate, advanced and selection groups with Ex Nunc: Ex Nunc. Her style is a mix of Laban and Limo Technology, which they in their own way mixes with contemporary influences of Yoga, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Capoeira, Forsyth technique and release technique.

She teaches modern dance at the Royal Conservatoire and the Rotterdam Dance Academy. She is also a consultant education policy at the Nederlands Dans Theater and artistic director of the daCi-conference-2006 (dance and the Child international).
