Are you coming to study at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, or are you planning to study abroad? You may be eligible for a scholarship. Please note that the number of scholarships available is limited.

Royal Conservatoire Excellence Scholarship Programme
You can apply for a scholarship if you achieved an excellent result (9 or 10) in the entrance examination for a master’s programme and submit a convincing Master Plan. NB These scholarships are not available for bachelor students.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, the following scholarships are available:

  • Excellence Scholarship -  for students of all nationalities.
  • NL Scholarship  - for students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who are studying in the Netherlands for the first time.
  • Top Scholarships - for students of all nationalities who demonstrate exceptional distinction through their artistic talent, creativity and quality of research.
  • TSH Changemaker Scholarship - for students with demonstrable changemaker qualities and the motivation to contribute to a better society.

If you experience unexpected financial difficulties during your studies at the Royal Conservatoire, please contact student counsellor Elke de Roos. She may be able to refer you to national funding opportunities.

Applying for a scholarship
Your entrance examination will be assessed by the examination committee of the relevant department. The committee consists of the Head of Department and teaching staff from the department. Candidates who receive a grade of 9 or 10 may submit a scholarship application.

Selection procedure

  1. Scholarship application by completing the form, including requested documents (before 25 May)
  2. Assessment and ranking of scholarship applications by Heads of Department
  3. Nomination to the Executive Board of the Royal Conservatoire
  4. Final selection by the Executive Board
  5. Informing candidates about acceptance or rejection (15 June)
  6. Scholarship recipients will receive an award letter no later than 1 July. The scholarship is officially accepted once the signed letter has been returned.

Criteria
Whether you are nominated for a scholarship depends on several factors. Applications are assessed on the basis of, among others:

  • The entrance examination
  • The Master Plan
  • Motivation
  • Financial situation (for some scholarships)
  • Specific criteria relevant to the department
