In this project, students from the Classical Music Department perform alongside the renowned reed quintet Calefax, Ensemble in Residence at the Royal Conservatoire.
Calefax – a close-knit group of five reed players – are pioneers of the reed quintet genre. Known for their own arrangements and new commissions, their repertoire features oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon, with influences from world music, jazz and improvisation.
This project gives students the opportunity to learn directly from professional musicians, gaining insights into ensemble playing, interpretation and stagecraft. A concert full of craftsmanship, energy and creative exchange.
