The KC Jazz Big Band warmly invites you to Winter Concert. Under the direction of Claudio Jr. De Rosa, the ensemble presents a programme that spans nearly a century of big band music. Expect works by Count Basie, Thad Jones and Peter Herbolzheimer, as well as a brand-new composition by Francesco Sensi, a composition student at the Royal Conservatoire. A rich and varied evening, full of styles and arranging approaches.
The Big Band has been part of the Conservatoire’s legacy since the 1970s, when students and teachers joined forces to form their own jazz orchestra. The Jazz Department was officially founded in 1979, with the Big Band at its heart. Since then, the ensemble has performed over twenty times at the North Sea Jazz Festival and has become a key presence in the Dutch jazz scene.
After a number of years, the Big Band returns as a regular ensemble within the Jazz Department. This celebratory performance marks a new chapter in its long and storied history.
