Ukrainian electroacoustic music: the possibility of the future

This lecture by Alla Zagaykevych is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation and development of Ukrainian electroacoustic music from the 1920s to the present day. It examines the historical context of the evolution of electroacoustic music, with special attention given to the development of early modernist Ukrainian film music as well as algorithmic composition and media art. The lecture will focus on the work of composers Leonid Grabovsky, Vitaliy Godziatsky, along with modern contemporary electroacoustic creativity.

Alla Zagaykevych is a Ukrainian composer of contemporary classical music, performance artist, curator of electroacoustic music projects, and musicologist. She graduated from the Kyiv National Music Academy of Ukraine and, in 1995–1996, attended the annual course in composition and musical informatics at IRCAM (Paris).

Her works include symphonic, instrumental, and vocal chamber music, as well as electroacoustic compositions, multimedia installations and performances, operas, and film music.

Alla Zagaykevych is the Artistic Director of the international projects Electroacoustics and EM-VISIA, and President of the Electroacoustic Music Association of Ukraine.
