Maestro Honoris Causa
Classical Music

Vera Beths receives the title of Maestro Honoris Causa in recognition of her exceptional contribution to musical practice, music education and the Royal Conservatoire. As a violinist and teacher, she has shaped generations of musicians through her uncompromising artistic vision, sharp musical insight and deep commitment to students. Her influence extends far beyond the studio and continues to resonate through the many alumni and teachers she has inspired.

Beths also played an important role in the development of historically informed performance practice and the promotion of contemporary music. Her international reputation attracted young violinists from around the world to The Hague. Her teaching was known for its high artistic standards, strong emphasis on individuality and musical character, and dedication to nurturing talent. In doing so, she has left a lasting mark on the Classical Music Department and on the wider professional field.

The distinction recognises not only her artistic career, but also her continued commitment to future generations of musicians. This is reflected, among other things, in the establishment of the Beths Scholarship, which encourages master’s students to bring musical heritage from the collections of the Netherlands Music Institute to new audiences. Beths also played an active role in acquiring important music collections for the institute. With this honorary title, the Royal Conservatoire acknowledges her enduring significance for education, heritage and the musical world.
