The Dutch soprano Nikki Treurniet is active as a concert and opera singer and has built a broad performance practice both in the Netherlands and internationally.
She regularly appears with, among others, Dutch National Opera, the Saturday Matinee series at the Concertgebouw, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, the Residentie Orkest, and the Komische Oper Berlin. She specialises in repertoire from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, but is also frequently involved in contemporary music theatre productions.
For several years, she was a soloist at the Staatsoper Hannover, where she performed a wide range of operatic roles. Since returning to the Netherlands, she has established a versatile freelance career.
The combination of experience as a full-time ensemble member and an international freelance artist forms an important foundation for her approach to vocal education.
In her teaching at the Royal Conservatoire, Nikki combines her stage experience with a clear and open approach to vocal technique, interpretation, and musical development. She guides students in discovering their own voice and encourages them to build their craft and artistry in a healthy, inquisitive, and integrated way.
Drawing from her own experience, she understands how diverse and demanding a singing career can be and aims to support students with realism, confidence, and joy. Expression, stylistic awareness, physical freedom, and mental resilience are central themes in her teaching.
About her role at the Royal Conservatoire, Nikki says:
"This position as a principal study teacher means a great deal to me. I look forward to working with young, talented students, helping them to further develop their musical and vocal potential, and sharing the knowledge and insights I’ve gained throughout my own career as a singer at home and abroad. With my experience as a musician in both opera houses and concert halls, I hope to support them in finding their own voice – not only technically and musically, but also as artists. I look forward to guiding them with care, expertise, and curiosity on their path."
