The entrance exam consists of a practical and a theoretical part. You will have to be successful in both parts in order to secure a place.

Practical section entrance exam
You prepare a programme of ca. 20 minutes of which about 15 minutes will be played during the exam. The works on the programme should be chosen from several style periods and serve the aim to evaluate your musicality, technical ability, level of stylistic knowledge and affinity with the performed repertoire.

Audition on bass or tenor trombone (or a combination of two).

The following programme or similar pieces should be prepared for the audition:

  • sonata or motet for trombone and BC (such as a motet by Riccio, Cima, or Viadana)
  • a sonata by Frescobaldi for basso solo (and BC)
  • ensemble music for a small formation (Picchi, Castello, Riccio)

Theoretical section entrance exam
The theory section consists of:

  • a written hearing test
  • a written test in general music theory
  • an individual practical solfège test
