Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir is a well known Violist, Chamber Musician, Viola Teacher, and Chamber Music Coach on the international circuit, currently on the faculty of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She comes from Reykjavik, Iceland and has lived in the USA, Germany, The UK and since 2004 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

She holds a Masters degree from the Juilliard school, New York, and a Performance degree from the Musikhochschule in Detmold, Germany, where her most influental teachers were Paul Doktor and Nobuko Imai.

Ásdís enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician, soloist and a teacher, having been a founding member of the Miami String Quartet, Principal Viola of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the violist of the Chilingirian String Quartet in London for many years. She was also a member of the Utrecht String Quartet for two years and her current groups are the Brunsvik String Trio and The Erard Ensemble based in the NL and the Endymion Ensemble based in London.

She has been fortunate enough to have had chamber music partners of the highest calibre, such as Steven Isserlis, Nobuko Imai, Gordan Nikolic, Colin Carr, Marc Danel, Philippe Graffin and Gary Hoffmann and has played as a guest with the Auryn, Petersen, Eroica, Talich, Oslo and Brodsky string Quartets.

Ásdís has been teaching since she was in her 20's and her first teaching position was at the New World School of the Arts in Miami. Since then she has been on the faculty of the Royal College of Music and the Trinity Laban Conservatory in London, briefly at the Utrecht Conservatory and for many years at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester before joining the Hague Conservatory in 2012. Since 2006 she is one of the teachers at the annual International Masterclass in Apeldoorn. She has been a frequent guest at many renowned chamber music festivals around the world where she plays and teaches. These include the Marlboro Music Festival, The Kuhmo Festival, Prussia Cove and many others.

Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir has made several CD recordings with her various chamber music groups over the years and in 2018- 2019 she released two CDs with the pianist Marcel Worms on the Zefir Records label titled ´The Voice of the Viola in times of oppression´. They include works by Weinberg, Shostakovich, Kagenburg and others and received glowing reviews. On the same label she has just released a recording of the complete String Trios of Beethoven with the Brunsvik String Trio. In early 2021 she will release a CD with works by Schubert; The Arpeggione Sonata, her own transcriptions of Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, Auf dem Strom and songs from the Winterreise cycle, also for Zefir Records. For this recording she used gut strings and her partners were the pianist Edward Janning, playing an Erard piano from 1850, and the soprano Katharine Dain. Further recording plans at the moment are to record the Mozart Divertimento and Schubert Trios with the Brunsvik String Trio in February 2021.
