Application & admission procedure

Want to apply to the Master Theory of Music at the Royal Conservatoire? Find out how to apply by following the step-by-step guide below.

Check the requirements

Read the entry requirements (see above) before starting your application.

Gather documents

Make sure to gather all the necessary documents for your entrance exam and studies.

  • Photocopies/scans of your diploma(s) and transcript(s), or your most recent report card (can be uploaded in Osiris until 1 July)

  • A copy/scan of your passport or ID

  • A recent photograph

  • CV (optional)

  • The motivation form (see below)

  • The Master Study Plan (see below)

  • A recording (only for applicants to the Master specialisation Music Education according to the Kodály Concept – see below)

Sign up via Studielink

Deadline: 26 February

Studielink is the online registration system for higher education in the Netherlands. When you register, you will also automatically be registered with DUO (Dienst Uitvoerend Onderwijs), the agency that arranges student financing, among other things.

    To Studielink

    Note: you will now leave the website of the Royal Conservatoire. You are not done with the admission process after registering with Studielink. Please read the further instructions below first.

    If you are a Dutch student, log on with your DigiD. If you do not yet have one, it can be requested at www.digid.nl. It could be several days before you receive the log-in codes.

      If you are an international student, log on with a user name and password that you will be able to create for yourself in Studielink.

      Apply for the course of your choice (the first step in your ‘to do’ list) under Royal Academy of Art/Royal Conservatoire The Hague. Complete each step in the screen. Detailed instructions and help with the process is available on the website of Studielink.

      Motivation form Master

      Answer the questions in the motivation form and upload the document in Osiris Apply.

      Master Study Plan

      You are required to write a realistic Master Study Plan. Please refer to the guidelines document

      Master Study Plan Guidelines for Music Education according to the Kodály Concept and Theory of Music.

      Invitation entrance exam

      The decision on whether you will be permitted to sit the entrance exam (international candidates will sometimes be allowed to sit a NON-LIVE entrance exam. This is decided on a case by case basis and is not automatically valid for all courses. Please ask your department for further information.) is based on the information and the answers you have entered and the documents and sound and visual recordings you have uploaded. The Student Administration Office will inform you by e-mail before whether you will be invited for an entrance exam.

      Entrance Exam

      The entrance exam consists of a practical part and a discussion of your Master Project Plan or Master Study Plan. The entrance exam has two rounds: an online pre-selection and a live (or real-time online) entrance exam.

      • You must choose between a live audition or an online real-time audition.

      All parts must be passed in order to be considered for a place. The admission requirements are listed under 'entry requirements'.

      After admission

      Deadline: 1 September

      Only when you have fulfilled all registration requirements will you be enrolled as a student. So make sure that you have submitted all requested documents before 1 September.

      Non-EU/EEA students who have been admitted to a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme or Preparatory Course have to submit the proof of their English language proficiency (see step English proficiency) before 1 September.

      If you are admitted you will receive information via e-mail and Studielink about payment of tuition fees.

      Extra note for international students

      Non-EU/EEA students who are admitted to the programme they applied for need an entry visa and/or residence permit. You also need to make other practical arrangements before you come to the Netherlands and when you arrive here.
