László Nemes

Teacher Choral Conducting

László Norbert Nemes studied music education and choral conducting at the Liszt Academy (Budapest, Hungary) and completed his doctoral degree in choral conducting at the University of Alberta (Canada). He received his habilitation certificate followed by professorship from the Liszt Academy of Music. He is known worldwide as one of the leading experts in the field of Kodály-inspired music education.

Since the beginning of his career, teaching and conducting choirs harmoniously coexist in his musical activities. For twelve years he conducted the Hungarian Radio Children’s Choir, he is artistic director of the New Liszt Ferenc Chamber Choir and founder of the National Youth Choir of Hungary. Until mid-2023 he was the Director of the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy of Music in Kecskemét (HU).

In September 2023 he was appointed co-artistic director of the Nationale Koren. Together with co-artistic director Irene Verburg, he is following in the footsteps of Wilma ten Wolde, under whose artistic leadership the Nationale Koren established a highly prestigious position in the musical life of the Netherlands.

At the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague he is main subject teacher Choral Conducting. Next to that he is part of the team of teachers in the “Master Music Education according to the Kodály Concept” and of the team for the teacher training course “Muziek als Vak”.
