Saxophonist and composer Tineke Postma, Rising Star for soprano saxophone of Downbeat Polls (2019), tours internationally as a leader and featured guest since 2003 and released eight albums as a leader which received great international critical acclaim. Tineke’s personal style can be described as lyrical, melodic and adventurous. Tineke is part of two Grammy awarded albums by Terri Lyne Carrington (The Mosaic Project) and Dianne Reeves (Beautiful). She received various awards; the European Musician of The Year (Academie Du Jazz, France, 2020), the Buma Boy Edgar Award (2015), the Edison National Category (2011) and the Jazz Juan Revelations Award (2009 Antibes Juan-les-Pins Festival). Tineke worked with prominent groups and orchestras of Kenny Barron, Terri Lyne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter, Dianne Reeves, Geri Allen, the WDR Bigband and the Metropole Orchestra. Tineke joined the Global All- Star Concert on International Jazz Day at the Assembly Hall of the United Nations (2012) in New York and performed in 2018 with legendary pianist Herbie Hancock in Melbourne, Australia and the Kennedy Honors Award in Washington. In 2023 Tineke was invited by Esperanza Spalding to take the role of Wayne Shorter, in a concert consisting of his symphonic written works such as Gaia, Orbits and a part of the opera Iphegenia. The invitation to step in Wayne Shorter’s role was a personal recommendation by the master himself before he passed in 2023. Tineke received various composition commissions: Bimhuis Composition Assignment 2020 (NL), Metropole Orchestra Jubilee Album (NL), Loft Köln (Germany). Tineke studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Manhatten School of Music (2002) and lived in NYC from 2009-2013. Currently, she is based in the Netherlands and teaches all over the world.
