The artistic research by Johannes Boer resulted in an opera that was produced after his libretto and dramaturgy by five composers, five singers, seven actors, and ten instrumentalists on period instruments. The opera title is La Tragedia di Claudio M, with a storyline that follows a dramatic year in the life of Claudio Monteverdi, from his Orfeo in 1607 to L’Arianna in 1608.

The research aimed to investigate the circumstances and core of Monteverdi’s creation of opera in a modern sense, which, according to many of his contemporaries and posterity, he achieved most through his Lamento d’Arianna. A collective of composers guided by Cornelis de Bondt and advised by Johannes Boer composed new music to alternate with the early 17th-century works. Italian actors, specialised in Commedia dell'arte, contributed to embody the relevant historical knowledge. The realisation of the opera functioned as an essential probing tool for researching knowledge.
