Caroline has had the pleasure of guiding students and their families from diverse backgrounds and levels in the Netherlands and the US for the past 20 years. Her particular interest lies in the mechanics of good cello playing, an area she is deeply passionate about. This focus has allowed her to cultivate a teaching approach that caters to students ranging from beginner to master level, providing a unique perspective on the distinct challenges at each stage of artistic development.
Caroline owes her love for teaching to having had teachers who also loved to teach, having studied principally under Steven Doane, Elizabeth Simkin, and Jaap ter Linden. Her music education studies include comprehensive strings pedagogy coursework, in both the ASTA and Suzuki concepts, with Suzuki teacher training under Pamela Devenport and Sally Gross (US). She has developed and taught cello methodology for music education students at Ithaca College and holds certification as a Suzuki Method teacher.
At the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, in addition to her work in the School for Young Talent (PI and Junior), Caroline teaches Baroque Cello and the Historical Development of the Cello and Viola da Gamba. She is also a Master Research Supervisor and a member of the Lectorate, where she is currently preparing research on the role of artistry in young music students. This multifaceted involvement aims to bring a well-rounded, research-informed perspective to her teaching practice. Caroline also proudly teaches for the Residentie Orkest's school program The Residents.
Caroline has given master classes, workshops, and solo performances in Asia, North America, and Europe, including The Beijing Central Conservatory, The Academy of Arts in Hong Kong, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Library of Congress, and can be heard on various recordings for Outhere, Pentatone, CPO, Bridge, and Alpha.
