Op zaterdag 17 juni, tijdens de Dag van de componist, heeft componist en alumna Seung-Won Oh de Kees van Baarenprijs in ontvangst genomen voor haar compositie YeonDo. Het New European Ensemble en Cappela Pratensis, en alt en alumna Elisa de Toffol, hebben het werk uitgevoerd tijdens Festival Dag in de Branding.
In een interview met Festival Dag in de Branding vertelt Seung-Won Oh wat het winnen van deze prijs voor haar betekent:
'Niet alleen het vakmanschap en de muzikaliteit, maar ook de filosofie en boodschap van YeonDo worden hiermee publiekelijk erkend. Deze prestigieuze erkenning is een belangrijke bevestiging van mijn muzikale denkproces. Het moedigt me aan om deze muziekfilosofie te blijven volgen en aandacht te besteden aan het belang van de spelers en het publiek: zij groeien uit tot een integraal onderdeel bij het componeren van een nieuw stuk.'
Elisa de Toffol, soloist and alumna van het Koninklijk Conservatorium over het concert:
'Performing as soloist in Yeon-Do by Seung-Won, has been the most beautiful challenge of this 2023 so far. Through the whole preparation process until the day of the concert, I dived more and more into the sacred and solemn dimension of the piece while getting deeper into the sounds and meaning of the Korean language and text. I felt the special connection that the composer Seung-Won had with this piece and it was very important for me not only to do a good performance but also get in touch with the soul of the piece. Playing with wonderful musicians such as Cappella Pratensis, New European Ensemble and the conductor Manoj Kamps (a fellow alumnus of The Royal Conservatoire), made this noble task quite a natural direction to take. Regarding the festival Dag in the Branding, I sang in the festival already in 2021 and I knew it would have been again a wonderful experience, both for the artists and for the audience.'
