You can only audition for the Complementary Subject after successful admission to the regular master’s programme of your main department at the Royal Conservatoire. Current master 1 students can apply as well.

Admission to the Complementary Subject is competitive: the departments will accept only a small number of students for the Complementary Subject. Candidates are expected to already possess extensive skills in the field of their chosen complementary subject. Admission after audition only.

Entry requirements:
To be considered for the Master Specialisation Complementary Subject programme, you will be asked to submit

  • Representative recordings that demonstrate affinity with performance practice of their chosen Complementary Subject (approximately 15-20 minutes)
  • a motivation letter (350-450 words) that explains the following:
    • your motivation for applying to take the Complementary Subject
    • how the Complementary Subject is integrated into your Master Project Plan

Deadlines

The deadline for submitting the recordings and motivation letter is June 1st. You will be informed of the outcome of the audition before July 1st.

Admission criteria Complementary Subject

  • musical and stylistic affinity with Early Music or Classical Music
  • the ability to perform relevant repertoire
  • potential for development within the genre
  • the degree of integration between the Complementary Subject and the Master Project Plan
  • The Complementary Subject entrance level should be comparable to the level of the main subject in Bachelor 3.
